Navi Mumbai, November 3, 2025: In a defining moment for Indian cricket, the Indian Women’s Cricket Team scripted history by clinching their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final at the Dr. D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
Opting to bat first, India put up an impressive total of 298 for 7, powered by Shafali Verma’s explosive 87 and Deepti Sharma’s composed 58. Their partnership anchored India’s innings and set a strong foundation. The South African bowlers tried to fight back, but India’s batting depth ensured a formidable target.
In response, South Africa showed great determination, with captain Laura Wolvaardt scoring a valiant 101. However, the Indian bowling attack, led by Deepti Sharma’s five-wicket haul (5/39), proved too strong, wrapping up the South African innings for 246 in 45.3 overs.
This victory marks a historic milestone — India’s first Women’s World Cup win after years of coming close, including heartbreaks in 2005 and 2017. The triumph was celebrated across the nation, with fans flooding the streets and social media to hail the “Women in Blue.”
Reacting to the win, captain Harmanpreet Kaur said, “This is not just our victory — it belongs to every girl who dreams of playing cricket for India. We’ve waited for this moment for years, and it finally feels real.”
The BCCI announced a ₹51 crore cash reward for the team, recognizing their outstanding performance and the impact this victory will have on women’s cricket in India.
