Happy National Youth day!
It was the 10th Book Fair at the New Town Ground, and as our Pranic Healing center had put up its stall at the Book Fair, I had the privilege to interact with many youths. Being a Pranic healer and Arhatic Yogi, I believe it is important how we look at life, and most importantly, how the youths of today look at their lives. In today’s fast-paced world, youth face a multitude of challenges that can affect their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Among these challenges, three major issues stand out: Focus, Insomnia, and a Chaotic Inner Self.
In this article, on the National Youth Day, I will explore these problems in depth, understanding their causes, consequences, and potential solutions.
FOCUS:
Focus is very crucial for a better concentration. Eliminating potential distractions and moving to a life where you can find your Ikigai is vital. In today’s internet driven world information has bombarded our life which can easily distract us but keeping the focus strictly on your life goals are essential and core to achieving the purpose of life. With smartphones, social media, and constant notifications, it has become increasingly challenging to concentrate on tasks at hand. The overuse of technology, especially among the youth, has a detrimental effect on their ability to focus. Excessive screen time, gaming, and social media can lead to addictive behaviors that further exacerbate the problem.
Lack of focus, thus, leads to lack of concentration and time management skills. This can make the youth anxious about the deadlines and eventually they become stressed.
How to overcome the problem?
The primary solution to this problem to focus is to know, understand and accept that you need to rework on yourself. Once you understand you move to the solutions.
- Self-Reflection and Goal Setting: Begin by taking a pause in your life and spending some quiet moments in silence to understand your life goals. Whenever you find yourself out of focus, revisit these goals. If necessary, write down your career aspirations and the steps required to achieve them.
- Mindfulness and Meditation: Practice mindfulness and meditation techniques. These can help young individuals center their thoughts and improve their ability to focus on the present moment. Keep in mind that becoming fully mindful and concentrated may take time, so be patient and persistent in your practice.
- Self-Discipline: Developing self-discipline is crucial. Instruct yourself to detach from excessive use of social media and other distractions. Remember that mobile phones are meant to assist us, not to lead us away from our goals. Set specific times for checking your phone and stick to them.
- Consistent Schedule: Create a structured schedule to enhance your focus. Keep practicing this daily until it becomes a habit. It is often said that it takes around 21 days to form a habit, but continue working on it until it becomes ingrained in your routine.
- Visual Aids: Consider placing motivational quotes, related photos, or printouts near your workplace or study table. These visual reminders can help you stay focused and motivated throughout the day.

INSOMNIA:
Sleep is a very effective way to improve productivity. Statistics say that about 38% of adolescents and 14% of young adults have insomnia. Not being able to sleep is a lifestyle problem and can be addressed and achieved successfully if one wants to work on it. The main factors contributing to insomnia are excessive use of mobile phones before going to bed or during the process of sleeping, work stress, disturbed relationships, and so on. Poor sleep quality has a detrimental impact on various facets of life, such as work performance, decision-making abilities, interpersonal relationships, and the heightened risk of work-related accidents or motor vehicle mishaps.
How to overcome the problem?
To solve this we can do the following –
- Establishing a Bedtime Routine: Creating a consistent bedtime routine can signal the body that it’s time to sleep. This can include activities such as reading a book or taking a warm bath.
- Limiting Caffeine and Screen Time: Reducing caffeine intake, especially in the hours leading up to bedtime, and avoiding screens before sleep can significantly improve sleep quality.
- Seeking Professional Help: For persistent insomnia, seeking help from a healthcare professional or therapist can be essential. They can provide guidance and treatment options tailored to individual needs.
- Gratitude Note: Start writing a gratitude note in your diary for any small or big thing that you think has been a blessing in your life. This will make you feel good and happy hormones will help you sleep well. You can also think about any happy moment if you don’t want to write a gratitude note.
CHAOTIC INNER PEACE:
Furthermore, it can contribute to an overall decline in one’s quality of life. Despite the widespread prevalence of sleep-related issues and insomnia within the general population, individuals grappling with sleep problems often remain unnoticed within the healthcare system.
Inner peace is very subjective. You must understand what peace means according to you. For some, it is to rise in their career; for others, it may mean leaving a mark even after death. You are unique in yourself; hence, you must find that one point in life that will make you peaceful, and after that, work towards developing it within you. Remember, you don’t find peace; you develop it within yourself.
Factors detrimental to inner peace include comparing yourself to others, finding your goals in others’ goals, leaning toward trends, and many others.
How to overcome the problem?
Finding inner peace needs efforts and a revision of it regularly. Here are some points –
- Self-Reflection: Encourage self-reflection to understand personal values and desires better. This can help young individuals make choices that align with their authentic selves.
- Healthy Relationships: Building healthy relationships with supportive friends and family members can provide emotional stability and a sense of belonging.
- Meditation: Meditating can be useful to find peace. It is not important to be a pro in the art but regular practice can make things move faster and better.
- Reading Books: Reading books can be vital in understanding life. There are many books on life and understanding the higher purpose in life which I shall write in a separate article.
Youth today grapple with a range of issues, including focus-related problems, insomnia, and inner turmoil. However, by implementing practical solutions, seeking professional help when necessary, and focusing on self-discovery, young individuals can overcome these challenges and pave the way for a brighter future.
