Retro-resta for Bengali Food Lovers

The kitchen basics are known to everyone and active taste buds call for exploration with the spices, quantity, and process.  The same simple Punjabi drink ‘lassi’ varies from one juice center to another across the nation and the most delectable one stands tall in the juice business. Here, Woman Times explores the streets of Kolkata to find the ethnic Bengali restaurant, SAPTAPADI.

When Ranjan Biswas, the owner of the restaurant, greets the team order is spelled out for the special ‘Sarbat’ of the restaurant. After a while, the serving boy comes and presents us with their special ‘Lichu Lankar Sarbat’.

The first gulp is sure to give you an adrenaline rush and the second will make you utter all the good adjectives under the sky. The special ‘Lichu Lanka’r sharbat’ is a perfect blend of the natural sweetness of lichis and the pungent taste gives the appetite a jerk making one realise Heaven’s route. With a lot of chit chat on the fusion menu that includes ‘Murgi Bhora Mousse with Tomato Tulsi Coolie’, ‘Cappucino Mutton Kosha’ – the item where mutton is grilled and a layer of coffee sauce is spread over the mutton, ‘Baked Dab Chingri Alaska’ – a unique dish on coconut shell within which prawn is stuffed and baked, ‘Ice cream Patishapta’ – explore your favourite ‘patishapta’ in a new avatar with ice cream and many more, the restaurant wears a retro look of ‘Uttam-Suchitra’, the immortal couple of Tollywood, and their movies.

The chit chat got interrupted by the serving of ‘Moori Fish Stick’ that is the item served for taste buds to write on the restaurant. Crisp puffed rice gave a crispy melt of the fish into the mouth and the different spices, again perfectly blended without any strong or dominant herbs, will even melt the ice between the fish and non-fish lovers and is a very good starter for any party. Mustard sauce adorning the taste, though optional, is not suggested as the taste of the ‘Moori Fish Stick’ itself has varied flavors in perfect quantity. Four sticks in one place can make you crazy for more of such sticks.

The restaurant believes in the fact that Bengali food is infamous for the excess oil but the owners of the restaurant Ranjan Biswas and Swaroop Mandal believe that minimum oil is used for ensuring the health of the customers. So, while you stuff your tummy be assured that it’s healthy.

Two persons can have a portion of good and quality food with a pocket pinch of Rs. 700 – Rs. 800. Special thalis are coming up on the menu and people can expect some real-time experimental food and drink like ‘Butterscotch and Pepper drink‘ this Puja. So, while you go shopping at Gariahat, the Gol Park branch of Saptapadi can be the best way to fill up your tummies. The other branch is at Baghajatin.
