21st July 2017, South 24 Paraganas: Ashalata Adhikary, aged 82 years, a resident of Nabapally in Sonarpur, Kolkata who was left stranded by his son at the Sonarpur Railway Station in the morning today, is rescued in the midnight by the OC GRPF of Sonarpur Railway Station.
It was around 10 pm when Abhishek Chattopadhyay, the Editor of the Bengali section of Woman Times, noticed the old lady and approached her to know the reason for her deplorable condition. On being asked Ashalata Adhikary with tears in her eyes says, “I have everyone – a son, daughter, daughter-in-law, son-in-law and grandchildren but today I am all alone. My son told me today morning that he will take me to an eye specialist but left me here in the railway station.” Soon the team of Woman Times spread the word and the Social Activity Advisor of the digital magazine, Mimi Das who is also a social activist and Debashish Kar, a media consultant took the initiative and connected with the OC GRPF of the concerned Railway Station and thereby rescued by the police.
She was sent to the civil hospital for her treatment and an inquiry is processed against the family. After the investigation and proceedings, it will be decided whether Ashalata Adhikary will stay with her family or send it to a government old-age home.
