Interview With Monika Parashari Lahiri

Q: How would you describe your childhood?

Monika: I grew up surrounded by nature, which gave me a sense of peace and grounding. As the youngest girl in the family, I was showered with love and affection. However, my father ensured I understood the importance of independence and resilience from a young age. These values became the foundation for my life. Taking on responsibilities early, I not only nurtured myself but also looked after my younger brothers, which helped shape my character.

Q: Could you tell us about your academic background and personal achievements?

Monika: I pursued my undergraduate studies in Textiles at Jadavpur University. Academics played an important role, but my real drive has always been to lead, strategize, and create something meaningful. Journalism became a powerful medium for me to express my thoughts and ideas, and it continues to be a tool for driving change.

Q: What inspired you to take up journalism as a career path?

Monika: Journalism wasn’t my ultimate goal—it was a means to an end. My passion lies in building organizations and overcoming challenges through strategic thinking. The written word is a powerful tool, and journalism gave me a platform to amplify my voice and make a difference.

Q: When you started, the media industry was largely male-dominated. How do you see the current scenario?

Monika: The industry has evolved tremendously. What was once a male bastion has now become more inclusive. Women are not only entering the field but also excelling in it. Financial empowerment has played a key role in this transformation, enabling women to assert themselves and claim their space in society.

Q: What are some awards and accolades that have motivated you throughout your career?

Monika: Every award and recognition is a cherished milestone. They remind me of the challenges I’ve overcome and the contributions I’ve made. Whether it’s for my work in women’s empowerment or social justice, these accolades are less about the titles and more about the memories and lessons they carry.

Q: As an empowered woman, what challenges do you think women in India still face?

Monika:

  1. Balancing Act: Many women struggle to manage their professional and personal lives, often neglecting self-care.
  2. Financial Independence: While progress has been made, I see women giving up control over their finances, which is concerning. Financial independence is crucial for true empowerment.
  3. Breaking the Glass Ceiling: Societal biases continue to limit women’s advancement into leadership roles. A shift in perception is necessary to truly empower women.

Q: Can you share some of your professional milestones and memorable associations?

Monika: One of my most significant achievements was establishing *The Millennium Post* across Eastern India. It was a challenging but rewarding experience. Currently, as the COO of Accolade Group, I’m working on some groundbreaking ventures that I believe will have a lasting impact.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I provided essential support to frontline workers and honored them with awards. Giving back is not just a duty; it’s a way of life for me.

Q: What is your message to women today?

Monika: Believe in yourself, respect yourself, and the world will follow suit. Empowerment begins with self-awareness and self-acknowledgment.
