The second season of the prestigious TV9 Bangla Nakshatra Samman celebrated individuals who have illuminated Bengal’s legacy on national and international platforms. Held recently at a five-star hotel in the city, the grand ceremony was meticulously planned and executed under the leadership of Barun Das, MD, TV9 Network.
The evening, Nakshatra Samman, was a testament to Bengal’s rich heritage, with six talented individuals being recognised for their excellence in diverse fields such as sports, theatre, medical research, historical studies, and humanitarian service. The event also paid tribute to a group of unsung heroes—individuals whose dedicated service has uplifted society.
Recognising Excellence Across Fields: Nakshatra Samman 2025
One of the most acclaimed awards of the evening, the “Prothom Theke Prothome” (The First Since Beginning) Award, was conferred upon former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, honouring his extraordinary achievements and leadership qualities.
Veteran theatre personality Rudraprasad Sengupta was bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his invaluable contribution to Bengal’s theatre landscape.
Other eminent personalities recognised with awards included:
- Dr. Asima Mukherjee – for her groundbreaking research in cancer treatment.
- Bahata Anshumali – for her remarkable work in deciphering the Sindhu civilisation script.
- Subhashish Ganguly – for his pioneering direction of plays featuring visually impaired actors.
- Dr. Arup Roy – for his unwavering commitment to educating children from marginalised communities.
Saluting Unsung Heroes:
In addition to honouring well-known figures, TV9 Bangla acknowledged five extraordinary individuals dedicated to philanthropic service:
- Padma Shri Dukhu Majhi – an environmental activist combating degradation in Purulia through afforestation efforts.
- Reba Murmu – who built schools for underprivileged children in Santhal-dominated areas of Bankura.
- Prabir Pal – a specially challenged educator, inspiring young minds.
- Saju Talukdar – who has constructed and provided shelters for the homeless.

On this special occasion, Amritanshu Bhattacharya, Managing Editor and Business Head, TV9 Bangla, remarked,

A Perspective on the Future
Barun Das, MD, TV9 Network, shared his thoughts on the evolving global landscape:
“At the beginning of this year, I shared with my friends, colleagues, and relatives that 2025 would be an inflection point—a year of radical change in the way people live, work, and think. Life, as we knew it, was not going to remain the same. We would all face two choices: either to perish or to flourish. No one could afford to stand still.”
He further highlighted two significant global factors:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) – A technological breakthrough with both immense promise and profound uncertainty, unlike previous advancements such as electricity or the internet.
- Geopolitical Uncertainty – The reshaping of global power structures due to elections in nearly 60 countries in 2024, along with the return of Donald Trump in the United States, which has disrupted long-standing economic cooperation among major economies.
As TV9 Bangla Nakshatra Samman 2025 celebrated the spirit of excellence and selfless service, it reinforced the importance of acknowledging those who shape Bengal’s legacy while inspiring future generations to strive for greatness.
