Bollywood to get the first Transwoman actor in Season’s Greetings

28th March 2019, Kolkata – Bollywood produces approximately 300 films a year but not all films hit the news but Season’s Greetings is different. Directed by Ram Kamal Mukherjee and produced by Aritra Das, this film introduces Shree Ghatak as an actor.

When films talk about society and issues core to the cardinal system of the nation often the directors want to make it real to the optimal possible extent. However, they know it well the roadblocks to casting an actor to enact the role of a transgender and Ram Kamal Mukherjee is no exception to it. Shree Ghatak Muhuri will be the first trans-woman to start acting in Bollywood films through her debut venture ‘Seasons’ Greetings’.

Shree shares her experience, “I was introduced to Ram Kamal by Aritra Das. But when I heard the story I was skeptical in accepting the role as I have always seen the transgenders being mocked at in the films or was seen as caricature which is a disappointing thing for me. Later when I realised that the concept is different and the character of Chapala is very important in creating a bond between mother and daughter I gave in with my inhibitions and accepted the role.”

The movie will find Celina Jaitley and Lillete Dubey in the cast. The story essentially has a message for the society and having Shree in the film boosts the social quotient. Shree is the India’s first Trans-woman to legally register her marriage and now this film adds feather to her cap. Not much is known about the film hence to know in details about the film one has no option then to wait for the right time.
