Byomkesh and Satyabati to come live on the ramp at Irani Fashion Studio

The Irani Fashion studio will turn 10 and it all started from a popular glam hunt show where she had showcased Indo – western pattern of sarees on the ramp and it attracted a pool of dignitaries who later visited her studio. This inspired her to take this up in a more fulfilling way. The designer designs for everyone like say if she designs for a family – that is the husband, wife, kids and at times guests too. She did not stop here but also designs curtains, key chains and the like which is customised keeping the family traditional and peculiar identity in mind so that the ones who are receiving may remember the family through their life. She also has designed kalamkari umbrellas which are nowhere found in the city.

Irani Mitra says, “I try to create new things which are not available in the market, starting from a keychain to the shoes. For me business is secondary; creativity is the primary thing. I don’t want 10 people to buy my product but 2 niche clientele whom I may satisfy with my designs.”

While asking about her career she replied, “Since childhood, I have the zeal to create new things. After my daily chores, I liked to make small handicrafts. One of my friends saw this and suggested me of a popular magazine for women which publish such things. I gave handicrafts to the magazine to be published and it thus began to receive a huge response.”

The designer did not confine her designs to a 6 feet saree but designed the personality of the woman wearing it. Her designs are about how a woman can wear a cotton saree at a party and make her own style statement at the same time.

Asking about the Byomkesh designs Irani Mitra told Woman Times, “When I was working with the organiser Sourav Banerjee, we worked on the theme of Devishakti then we came up with the idea to launch our winter collection. He suggested going for Byomkesh, where there will be a couple ramp show, every man portraying Byomkesh and woman portraying Satyabati. I communicated with the choreographer and asked to put few skits of Byomkesh Satyabati for each pair, because we have know while Byomkesh solved cases, Satyabati helped him finding clues, thus resembling herself as the perfect better half. So I wanted to personate the effect of Byomkesh Satyabati duo and recreate their romance through my collections. This would be the first Act ramp show.”

Rajendra Mitra and Irani Mitra

Not only this but her brand ‘Irani Mitra’ also has gone for registration in Norman under the trademark Irani Mitra. The key persons are Anindya Mitra from Mitra Minds and Sourav Banerjee, the organiser who has coordinated the entire program. There will be a total of 16 people on the ramp, where each couple would be accompanied with one character from the Byomkesh series. She along with her husband, Rajendra Mitra, are the showstoppers in the event for the reason that the clothes are brought from her husband’s recently launched brand for which she designed the dhotis, kurtas and winter shawls.

It will be a treat to cherish the characters of Byomkesh and Satyabati on the ramp.
