Facebook Group: mental relaxation amidst lockdown

Facebook status! Facebook DP, Facebook timeline…and it goes on. The technology has gifted the World the power of social media where we often complain about the ill effects of it but in reality, the boon is no lesser.  Amidst this lockdown, Amrita Mukherjee has come up with an idea to spread some positivity in people with her newly founded group ‘KHELAGHOR‘.

“Just after the Janata Curfew I was depressed thinking the grave situation ahead. I thought the same shall happen with others as well. Taking to Facebook, this idea cam in where I thought of having a group only with my brothers and sisters. But eventually, their friends got added to the group and currently, we have around 1200 members”, says the founder of the group, Amrita Mukherjee.

This social media group has been able to build up a strong community commitment where every evening they conduct virtual events. People look up to the space to enjoy some real and live programs. Through this, the group members have been able to pacify their anxiety and enjoy life once again. Recently the group has successfully celebrated Rabindra Jayanti through members performing in different genres. The best thing about the group is that there is no age limit. Old couples to small children have dressed themselves in thakurbarir saaj. Women of all ages performed dance, songs of Tagore and recited lines by him.

Mukherjee is by profession a chartered accountant who is overwhelmed with the response her group has generated in such a small time. There is also a group session where members can share their paranormal experiences with the other members. Supreet Sarkar, a hotelier, says, “Khelaghar for me is like my home. It has become a success because of the founders who are so approachable. It is a fantastic place to relax the mind at such times.

On asking the founder about planning ahead she replies, “Yes, I have many plannings like doing stage shows with them, taking this platform on a bigger level. Performers who are generally not recognised shall be done so on this platform.”

“I went into a depression as all my shows were cancelled. Thoughts and worries occupied my mind and then one of my acquaintance told me about this group and gave me Amrita Mukherjee’s number. She gave me the first live show in the group. Appreciations from all the group members revived my wish to rehearse that I stopped otherwise”, says Bahnisikha Mukherjee.
