Dear shopping aficionados, Puja is around the corner and as we all know right form of fashion needs the right makeup but as the rain is showing its tantrums the weather forecast speaks of its presence during the Puja. Extra careful is the root of makeup this season. There are a lot of brands to choose from this season from the mass market brands and with a host of skin care brands retailing astringents, toners, moisturisers, primers, BB Creams and CC Creams, ladies will be spoilt for choice.

Let us zip through the essentials for this season. Here is a stepwise guide to make the most of your looks.

  • Face wash – One of the most important products which cleanse the face and give a clear look thereby, making it easier to work on it, like a plain canvas, where you can play with colours. Choosing the right face wash is an extremely important step. There is a variety of face washes for oily skin, dry skin, combination skin as well as normal skin. Choose your type wisely.

  • Cleansers – These are also available a plenty with various herbal bases, which clean the skin from the pores. Cleansers extract the most stubborn dirt from deep inside.

  • Astringents and Toners – Both being from the same family, the toner is a bit softer on the skin due to low alcohol content than the astringent. These tighten the pores and minimise oiliness. So, if you want to make your make up stay for long hours, this is the saviour.

  • Moisturiser and Primers –These are absolute essentials, as they hydrate the skin, be it dry, oily or normal. They provide the base for the makeup, preparing you to explore the endless permutation and combination on your facial area.

  • BB & CC Creams – These can be used for the daytime look. It is the first step for the makeup to start with. These will provide the base for the powder that follows this step, and helps in setting it.

  • Foundation (Liquid, Cream or stick forms) – Now, it depends on the skin. Dry skin types should go for creamy ones and oily skinned people will have to settle for the liquid or water based ones. Blending the foundation is an important part of the process, to avoid the cakey look. Blend until the product seeps deep into the skin. Concealers can be used, and are available in a variety of shades to match the skin tone on which it will be used. This product is an important arsenal to hide those stubborn dark circles and marks on the face. Again, blending is the key.

  • Powder/ Compact – These can be applied with a thick powder brush or puff, whichever seems comfortable. Shades need to be kept in mind, as we want to look flawless and not a racoon.

  • Eyebrow pencils/ shadow – These help us to define our eyebrows. Brown shades can be used to give a softer look to the eyebrows in the daytime and black at night.

  • Eyeshadows – Available in various forms like powder, cream, liquid, gel and in matte, sheer, frosted and glossy tones you get a wide choice to choose from. Simmers and glimmers are also a craze this season and great for a night out, though matte products are more suitable for the daytime.

  • Highlighters – It accentuates your brow bone. This shimmery shadow defines the entire eye makeup and also can be used to lift cheekbones.

  • Eyeliners – This one product in our kitty is the ultimate in giving the look we want to ‘the windows of soul’. These are available in liquid, cake, gel, pen forms. And in a variety of colours from black, blue, browns to bolder ones like green, gold, silver, copper and other metallic shades. To avoid the harsh line, smudge with a shadow applicator to create a soft look. It can be used on both the upper and lower lash line.

  • Kajal/ Kohl – Ahh! ‘kajra re mere kaare kaare naina…’ Kohl gives a softer look than eye liners. Used mostly for lower lash line.

  • Mascara – Volume boosters, length enhancers and so on. Available in a variety of forms to give the desired effect on your lashes and in a variety of colours. This gives the eye makeup the Finale’ look.

  • Blushers – Adding colour to our cheeks, they come in a variety of shades from peaches to browns. Peaches can be used in the day looks and browns sparingly.

  • Lipsticks – They are the souls, and is something we cannot go without, even on uneventful days, as they give colour to our lips. Available in matte, frosted and gloss. They can put the sunshine on the dullest faces. Pinks, subtle browns, nudes give a natural day time look. Coppers, reds, bronze, violets, magentas can be used for a night look. An important tip for all, to make the lipstick stay for longer and prevent bleeding. Always line your lips with a matching shade of lip colour and put some talcum powder so the lipstick sticks to your lips and not on the glass that you are sipping from.

To keep your makeup, stay longer, spray with a finishing mist and stay beautiful all day. Most important do not forget to apply the makeup same way on your neck too. Now, you are ready to rock the Pujas. You Go Girl!
