20th December 2017 – The trend of short film has gripped the creative filmmakers who explore different genres through their lenses, and one such creative piece that has been nominated for the ‘Jio Filmfare Short Film Awards 2018’ has been ‘Geodesy – Figure of the Earth’. The voting lines are on and people can vote for the short film.
Directed by Tathagata Mukherjee the concept came out from the dual existence of two separate worlds. In the director’s words, “I have always felt the dual existence in life. On one hand, where I live in a high rise building a few steps away from my home is a ‘Jhuro Bosti’ and ironically we are neighbors. Abira once told me to make something for Christmas and children. I had collaborated both my observation of these two different existences and the theme.”
The concept of the film goes thus that two children are interviewed and through their spectacle, the Christmas and the whole idea of celebration are projected. The contrast between the people celebrating on the streets of the most popular Park Street, and the poor children just glancing at things tell the story of co-existence. The huge difference between someone having everything abundantly and few having nothing brings to the foray that though there is a hullabaloo festive but it has no effect on the deprived section. On asking about the difficulties of making the film he says, “Shooting was difficult as on 25th December it was pretty tough to even place the camera. Moreover, Deboleena and I had to wear a mask to avoid the attention of the crowd. Otherwise, it has been a great journey and post-production has been a thing of joy for every one of us and with a team that includes, Abira Mazumdar – Production Designer, Pratip Mukherjee – DOP, Pradipta Bhattacharyya –Editor, Mayookh Bhaumik – Music and many others had been a great support.”
