Today, society is making many things possible for women. On one hand, there is a rise in atrocities against women. Moreover, some women have come all out in the open to give a fitting reply to her oppressors. However, the lady in question today is not oppressed. There are situations in a woman’s life when she has to choose between work and career. Soma Banerjee has done just that. Let us find out more about the life of this 40-plus lady.
A housewife:
So, Soma who stayed in Howrah, Shibpur completed her schooling from Shibpur Bhavani Balika Vidyalaya. Then, she went on to graduate from Howrah Bijaykrishna Girls College. Then, she went on to do an M.A in Philosophy. She was born and brought up in a conservative family. With fewer friends for company, she was mostly engaged in the household. She was engaged in singing and studies as a child. Moreover, she spent some with pets at home. So, you can say that almost her childhood was spent in the confines of her home. Later, she went on to marry in a joint family. All her in-laws are very co-operative. My husband is very friendly. Her children are also very accommodating, being brought up in a joint family.

Her Family:

This is her family life. She is very down to earth, but she has quite a few achievements under her belt. Well, she does not want to exaggerate, as she thinks she has a lot to achieve. She loves to sing her heart out. She has also participated in Sharod Shrestha Mukh Samman 2019. She gained the first runner up position. She has even lost 10 kilograms weight for the contest. Being a housewife, handling her life and responsibilities she does a commendable act at 40-plus. She is quite happy for herself.
Soma also wanted to travel a lot and luckily she has a partner to accompany her. Her husband who is also a travel aficionado. She has mostly travelled to jungles. She has also participated in two contests – Sharod Shrestha Mukh Samman 2019 and Miss & MrsNew Year 2020. She has won the Woman of Substance in 2020 in the latter. In fact, Soma has also started learning dance lately. She has performed at a few stage shows as well. She also loved to sing, but the career did not take off. Soma loves to spend her time now, writing poetry and also sings her heart out at home.
Life In Her Eyes:
“Life is all about getting happiness and giving happiness in return. She does not believe in wasting time. Moreover, she encourages all women to learn all life. Only money cannot buy happiness. Creativity is a huge possession. She encourages that.” says Banerjee.
Message for COVID19:
COVID19 is a teacher, not a virus. We have neglected hygiene and cleanliness to date. We have only taken from the environment, without giving anything in return. We have destroyed the forest. We indulged in fast food, to the point of no return. However, we have managed to stay without it for over 2 months. Today, due to the shutdown, we have clean air to breathe and also nurtured the plants. The situation has shown how some people like doctors have joined as the first line of defence. Many people are making monetary contributions aplenty for the betterment of the victims. You should fight the virus, not the infected.
Her message for Women:
Being the title holder of MMNY – Substance of Woman, I will always try to be with the underprivileged and voiceless animals. That will give me immense pleasure. Moreover, all women should not discontinue their passion and dreams. There is only one life. Do not pay heed to criticism. You can do anything at any age and it does not matter if you are a housewife or working woman. The world has become more progressive today.
Woman Times has given me a huge platform as a contestant at Miss and Mrs New Year 2020. Winning the title of ‘Woman of Substance‘ has only increased my consciousness, confidence and responsibility to do better for the society. It was a dream come true for me, as a housewife. They have groomed all the participants really well. Parul Gulati was really commendable as a groomer along with Patralekha. I loved the costumes provided in the contest. I thank the organisers for such a platform to raise women from the doldrums up in front on the stage of life.
