Indian women’s cricket team & ICC Women’s World Cup 2025

At a time when empowering women and ensuring gender equality remain elusive in many Asian countries like Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, we take pride in the monumental achievements of our women in various fields, in consonance with the glorious traditions of Gargi, Maitree, Padmini, Rani Laxmibai, and others. There is a long list of our brave, majestic, and patriotic women who have made the nation proud.

In keeping with the legacy of these valiant women, we have recently witnessed Colonel Sofia Quereshi and Vyomika Singh of the Indian Air Force distinguish themselves in the aftermath of the gruesome Pahalgam tragedy on April 22, forming an indispensable part of the Indian Army that has outperformed arch-rival Pakistan.

It is worth mentioning that the ICC Women’s World Cricket Tournament 2025 will be held in India from September 30 amidst great enthusiasm and expectation. Our women cricketers have already proved their worth through splendid performances. In June 2025, the Indian women’s cricket team overwhelmingly defeated England in their own backyard in both T20 and ODI formats. Considering that the England women’s team is usually ranked second best in the world after Australia, beating them at home is indeed a highly praiseworthy achievement.

Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian captain, along with Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Amanjot Kaur, and others, ensured Team England’s defeat. Cricket experts now consider these women cricketers to be as good as their male counterparts.

A look at the Indian women’s cricket team also highlights the immense contribution of past legends like Diana Edulji, Anjum Chopra, and Jhulan Goswami, who enabled Indian women’s cricket to reach the pinnacle of success. Joining these glorious icons was Mithali Raj, another legend who ushered in a new era of Indian women’s cricket.
