International Rabindra Nritya Festival: Nritya Malika

With the lockdown announced, people have found a new way of entertainment and that is through a digital concert. However, the Rabindra dance form remains isolate as other forms disseminate widely through the digital platform. Senjuti Guha Roy, the contemporary figure of the Rabindra-nritya, comes to bridge the gap. Through Nritya Malika festival the Tagore’s dance form will be celebrated worldwide. This festival started on 1st August 2020 and will end on 23rd August 2020.

Poli Guha, the doyen of Rabindra-nritya says, “I am really happy that my daughter initiates this online festival amidst the pandemic. I am an ardent lover of Rabindranath’s creation. But it really pains me when I see distorted displays of the dance form. But I truly hope that this festival will bring people together to celebrate and understand the authentic form.

Senjuti Guha Roy says, “I am really happy that the lockdown can not impede the spirit of the artists and creative lovers. Maa is always very particular about the dance form. And I also love to follow her instructions of not deviating from the authentic ways of presenting this art.”

Senjuti Guha Roy is the daughter and student of Poli Guha, the renowned danseuse in Rabindra-nritya. Trained in classical in her early life, she is now preaching what her mother taught her. This festival is hope for millions of Rabindranath lovers to celebrate. On weekdays people can witness the fervour of the festival on their official facebook page.
