Irani Mitra’s pattern Sari and renowned danseuse Guru Sanchita Bhattacharya are creating new fashion statement

Woman Times Desk, Kolkata – “I had to struggle a lot to establish my brand. Fashion has been my passion but without much of my knowledge. It all started when I used to create handmade knitted crafts in my leisure time after my marriage and one fine day a popular women’s magazine published my works.” says Irani Mitra.

Welcome to Irani Mitra’s Studio, this is a timeless space that you will travel into. She is a fashion designer who believes in creating patterns and that is her unique identity in the fashion industry. Life was and is still simple to her only her patterns are not. She is a rare breed who is all the time busy thinking about her patterns and her new signature styles. A hardcore family woman who washes utensils, cooks, and manages her home weaves her pattern stories in her mind silently throughout the day that manifests in her workshop. Started in 2010, her first design was bought by a Ward Councillor of the city and back then she displayed her saris and dress materials at her home.

Irani’s sari has been widely used in the Bengali film industry with prominent heroines wearing them. In her recent photoshoot with Guru Sanchita Bhattacharya, the fashion designer presents her latest version of pattern sari.

While asking the renowned dancer about the collections of the designer, Guru Sanchita opines, “I loved her designs and patterns. They are different and all of them are unique from each other. The supporting pieces of jewellery are also handpicked brilliantly.”

Handloom Benarasi Sari –

This is a sari that I have prepared keeping in mind the Indian weather and the need to wear a Benarasi Sari on occasions. This is a not just a 6-meter cloth but 6 stories compiled together in a series. The Sari has many different patterns but all of them are in a yellow ochre shade. There is ‘gamcha’ pattern, various handloom textures panelled with the Benarasi stripes to give the sari a balanced and at the same time glam look.

The sari has a Bishnupuri blouse with a custom Chinese collar, that spreads from the shoulder keeping in mind the sultry climatic conditions. This kind of Sari is ideal for any occasion as the colour and the tone of the Sari balances the richness and simplicity of the look. Moreover, the different patterns used in it restricts the dominance of a particular tendency of stereotypical Sari. Blocks, checks and the Benarasi will definitely make you say ‘Wow’. Price is not disclosed and one must visit the Irani Mitra Studio to more about the Sari.

Indo-Western Pattern, STEP 1 –

Designer: Irani Mitra, Make-up: Tapas Basak and Signature Model: Guru Sanchita Bhattacharya

This Indo-western pattern sari is a different kind of partywear with a smart colour and immediately to balance it has strips of Batik print on the end of the Sari and in the middle of the Sari as well from where the pieces of Batik strips peep out to the world. The soft net sari gives an oomph look collaged with Mahagony bangles specially made by the designer herself to match the sari collections.

This is the exclusive collection that I am revealing to Woman Times for the first time. I have named my collection as Step 1 as there are too many patterns that I have created and naming them has been a difficult process for me so I have kept them as Steps.” says the designer.

This is extremely comfortable and at the same time ready to wear for any party. The patterns that are created after wearing the sari looks smart, sleek and appealing.

Indo-western Pattern, STEP 2 –

Designer: Irani Mitra, Make-up: Tapas Basak and Signature Model: Guru Sanchita Bhattacharya

This is another Sari from the series of the Ind-western Patterns. The black Sari looks simple with a retro touch but at the same time reflects the glamorous soul that drapes it. The combination of black and orange is timeless and is idle for an evening party. There are loose folds or layers in the sari and as one drapes it, the sari blooms like a flower. The stripes of orange are not just lines but loosely folded pieces of cloth.

The blouse is an orange coloured cotton piece that is combined with a fine black net to give a western pattern design for the hand that comes from the shoulder to the wrist. A perfect combination of tradition and western comfort. Lightweight and glamorous sari is for the ones who love to wear a sari but finds hurdles during this sultry summer.
