20th July 2018, Kolkata (Dalmiya House) – When extravagant marriage seems to be a distant dream for young boys and girls who desire to have a marriage ceremony that can be talked about for a lifetime, Vaishali Dalmiya comes to their rescue. It was the ‘Rupashree Prokalpo’ that indulged the thoughts of helping these young souls to unite in the way they desire to, naming the whole ceremony as ‘Golpo-Holo-Shotti’.
“I have done this ghotkalin (match-making) a lot since I was young when people at my father’s office needed the support. So, once again I am going through the same feeling.”
The MLA of Bally has been successful in reaching out to people not only through her position but also through her generous nature and infectious smile she holds the enigma to peep into anyone’s heart. On asking about the necessity of the furniture, gold jewelry and other things to be given for the marriage, Vaishali giggles, “I know every girl has a dream to get married in a Bollywood style or the kind she can boast about. These marriage rituals were for 5 days including all types of rituals like ‘gaayeholud’, ‘ai-burobhaat’, ‘mehendi’ and ‘sangeet’.
“I thought of eloping with my wife had I not met Vaishali didi who changed everything for us. We can never imagine having such a lifestyle even for half a day but she made it true for us in such a big way. I am doing love marriage and families would not have supported but now it is different”, says Rabindra Burman, a groom.
The room where the couples were performing puja was brimming with people both known and unknown to the Dalmiya daughter. Amidst everything the host remembers typically like a parent to the couples, to make the guests comfortable ensuring that none of them goes without having a delicacy or two to celebrate the noble cause.
As Laxmi Ratan Shukla puts in his words, “This is a great initiative by Baishali Dalmiya and being the daughter of Jagmohan Dalmiya this is what is expected from her. This is a noble cause to support for.”
The whole program has been an event where they shopped for their marriage, enjoyed being together, a feeling that Rabindra says “Cannot explain the enthusiasm that we are going through, shopping in big malls and days of outing together were never on our practical cards.”
While Aloka Mondal, a 22-year bride, says,
“It is really ‘golpo holo shotti’ (dreams come true) and I am grateful to didi (Baishali Dalmiya) forever. I never thought that this dream will ever come true. It is like a big fat wedding for us.”
Sandip Bhattacharya, a television actor comments, “It is a commendable cause that has been taken up by her and that too at this level of grandeur.” We often look up to Indian wedding as a big affair and in that affair, every minute ritual has been taken care of and most important thing is that the dreams of so many cupid disciples came true through the initiator, Baishali Dalmiya.
