The entry to Cafe Heritage will surely bump up your mood and that’s what happened to me. The low-lit rooms and the top charted music instantly boosted my frame of mind. The hookahs being inhaled by the others created the scene of ‘Dum Maro Dum…mit Jaye gam’ and the turban on my head was quite interested in this ambiance. Caravans or cabins with a capacity of 8 to 10 people are a great way to spend some cozy time in an informal way pulling up your legs or even lying down just like at your home.
The restaurant is in the heart of the city, near to Kalighat Metro Station. Moushumi Nayak and her husband Sanjay Ghosh own the place and believe that it’s just not for recreation but for reliving the soul. There then comes the great food – ‘GRILLED CHICKEN’. The texture and color of the food gave me a Conti-feeling, a kind of foreign association if any. Savouring the first bite of the chicken came with the taste of thyme and mint along with the cafe’s special brown sauce. Going out of the common way of using market-available-sauce they prepare their own sauce and brown sauce is one of their secret ingredients used for the grilled chicken. The very uncommon yet relishing flavor must be the sauce’s gift to my taste buds.
The brown grilled chicken was topped by an egg poach well measured in radius and diameter accompanied by sautéing vegetables that included mushroom, corn, beans, carrots and peas, and salad. The addition to the package is the bread bun. The vegetables are not just healthy but the platter takes care of the calorie intake of the consumers. Low oil and healthy veggies with that the goodness of chicken and egg will energize you. It makes a great combo deal and one may feel it insufficient but while devouring you might realize your mistake. The bread is altered with Mexican rice in the evenings and prior to that, the buns do the job. The platter will cost less to your pockets and it is just Rs. 290 per platter. Not to forget the french fries which can be a great munching way along with the platter giving a homely menu of ‘alu bhaja’ with our meals.
