Pandit Ravi Kichlu Foundation pays a tribute to the Legend Girija Devi through the ‘Yaadein’ 2018

5th August 2018, Kolkata – Pandit Ravi Kichlu Foundation founded by Mrs. Veena Kichlu in March 1994, organised ‘Yaadein’, an annual program in memory of the great vocalist, Padma Vibhushan Smt. Girija Devi. The program was graced by eminent personalities like Janab Firhad Hakim (Minister for Urban Development and the Minister for Municipal Affairs in the Government of West Bengal), Joint Commissioner of Police Shri Sujay Chanda, Debosree Roy (actor), Arjun Chakraborty (actor), Sanjay Budhiya (Industrialist) and others.

The program started with the felicitation to the school toppers of the Satya Sai School run by the foundation followed by the Santoor recital by Abhigyan Dutta, the great-grandson of Smt. Girija Devi. The evening was mesmerised by the performances of Shri Vishal Krishna, grandson of the legendary Kathak artiste Smt. Sitara Devi. The free flow performances compelled the audience to give a standing ovation after the program. He was accompanied by his brother by his tabla, Shri Kushal Krishna, on the Pakhawaj by Shri Kunal Sadashiv Patil, on the Sitar by Sandeep Neogi and Shri Pratip Banerjee on vocals. The climactic performance of flute recital by Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia, accompanied by Shri Vivek Sonar on flute and Pt. Subhankar Banerjee on table hypnotised the audience only to wake up at the witty remarks by the legend.

The evening came to an end by the presentation of the ‘SANSKRITI SAMMAN’ to Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia and Mrs. Veena Kichlu for their immense contribution to the Indian music and an appreciation certificate to Shri Vishal Krishna, Shri Vivek Sonar, and Pandit Subhankar Banerjee for their support towards the Indian Classical music.
