Pooja D Gupta, the new age decoupreneur

Pooja D Gupta might not be a familiar name to everyone but for the ones who love the art of decoupage, she is the Guru. Something that is not easy but different and beautiful is the art of decoupage and not every Indian knows about it and how to take it up as a profession or a hobby but this could not hold back Pooja’s passion for the art, and she has now been sermonising workshops on the art.

Decoupage art, according to Wikipedia, is the art of decorating an object by gluing colored paper cutouts onto it in combination with special paint effects, gold leaf, and other decorative elements. This art form has a past history of more than four centuries old, very popular in France, Siberia, Venice and China which later spread across the globe.

The first woman decouper was Mary Delany and in this 21st Century, this contemporary ‘de-couper’ is spreading the craze of decoupage art through her creative studio, POSH Creative Studio, based in Bengaluru, and is otherwise expanded through its workshop classes. Though it was tough for Pooja to convince people about this unconventional profession to her family later they supported her and much to her aid is her husband’s cooperation but the strong will to pursue the art needs courage and confidence to preach to her students which she successfully does.

The studio gets its name from the collaboration of the first two words of the couple Pooja D Gupta and Shobhit Gupta.

“I was put in the craft classes when I was small and there was an aunt, a friend of my mother, who was also a doctor by profession and did a lot of charity by collecting money from conducting the workshops. The money went to the needy people and to help in raising the funds my mother pushed me to attend these workshops and thus I developed a liking towards it,” says Pooja D Gupta.

She further adds, “I later got exposed to better techniques which I could apply in the art”. As follows Pooja dives into the pool of art where she fusions her work on mix media. The path was easier said than done as it was cumbersome to make individuals be au fait with the concept of the art. Speculations over the durability of the products often distract people from either purchasing the decoupage products or learning the same. Nevertheless, creativity attracts people who desire to learn.

Decoupage items by POSH Creative Studio

Pooja D Gupta, the decouper, applies different techniques to the art while teaching her students which she once learned from her French teacher. Pooja dexterously prepares products out of decrepitated articles like bottles, lamps, boxes et al. While she imparts decoupage education to the wide age of people she also prepares her set of innovative products to be purchased from her studio. The most exciting part is that Pooja welcomes waste items to be contributed to her to make upcycle products, which means to transform the old and ragged into new and of higher quality than the original.

Pooja uses Mod Podge widely for her decoupage art process which is gaining popularity among the participants. Using fusion like decoupage on mix media, she is trying to explore the various possibilities of the art and craft of decoupage and upcycle.

The entrepreneurial venture is Pooja’s passion and she does it in her way which is appreciated by her students and clients. With limited students per workshop, Pooja focuses on imparting detailed knowledge to the participants. To purchase her upcycle and decoupage products POSH Creative Studio is the only solution.
