‘Utthan’ receives the second best film in ADMI film festival

7th November 2017 – On 6th November, the 3rd ADMI film festival was held at Kolkata at Moulali Yuva Kendra. Of many awards ‘Utthan’ received the Second Best Film award. The film is directed by Souvik Dey and the lead actress is Megh Sayantan Ghosh, who received the best actress award for the film.

The film is about a girl who was gang-raped by a few hooligans and was rescued by a ‘Rupantarkaami’, and took her to their home. The girl was loved by the other transwomen as well. One fine day they discover that the pimp tries to sell the girl but all of the protest and is saved ultimately. All her needs are taken care of by the transwomen but she gets well only to move out of the house. The lead character of the film searches for the girl everywhere. Smt. Ranjita Sinha, the Secretary of West Bengal Transgender ATHB, is also seen acting in a special role in the film. Apart from her, a child artist Chandrani Das is also featured in the movie.
