We Have 12 Years To Limit Climate Change Catastrophe, Warns UN

In the recent past, climate change has been a primary issue of concern. Landslides, melting of icebergs in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, and many other adverse climatic conditions have resulted from the destructive changes in the oceans and seas of the Earth. The primary reason for such adverse occurrences is Flood.

Global warming is at an all-time high, seemingly making matters worse for everyone. The greenhouse gases deplete the ozone layer and allow the heat inside the Earth’s bubble to increase manifold. A catastrophe will soon engulf all if we do not take the necessary steps.

What Are Leading Scientists Saying?

Most scientists believe that climate change catastrophe will be inevitable if the Earth’s temperature rises by as little as 1.5 degrees Celsius in a dozen years. It will supposedly increase the risk of drought, floods, and excessive heat. Moreover, many people would have to leave their homes due to natural calamities. Apart from that, there will be tremendous economic losses as well.

Climate Change Summit was held in Glasgow, where many nations had congregated. It was to discuss how climate change can be kept to a minimum. The Government and Intergovernmental Panel believe that the climate change issue can be controlled with cost-effective measures.

However, necessary discussions and required action must be taken to achieve positive results. The minute difference in temperature, if maintained, can help us to keep the Corals underneath the seas in proper condition. Otherwise, they seem to be heading towards death. As of now, the Paris Agreement has pledged to keep the temperature in control. It is a thin line that everybody cannot afford to cross in the next 12 years.

Many policymakers had formulated numerous policies in 2016 in the Paris Agreement. However, science and politics governing several situations run parallel and disagree. That is what creates the rift between must-do and can-do. The threat is also looming over the most significant rain forests in the Amazon. You must have come across several reports of tornadoes in the US. Many believe that it is due to the climate change fiasco.

What Does A Two-degree Rise Mean?

The 2-degree rise in temperature can cause the climate change scenario to reach difficult proportions. The northern hemisphere is already feeling the heat of the 2-degree Celsius rise in temperature. More and more heat-related deaths are coming to the fore as well. However, the impact will first be on the natural surroundings, marine life, plants, oceans, and insects. Many insects are essential for agricultural endeavors. However, loss of habitat due to climate change may kill them.

Additionally, oceans are already suffering from oil spills and rising acidity levels. The oxygen level is also going down. So, there will be a time when the world will have to live without fish on its plate. Marine life has been hampered in a big way.

Most industries have been encouraged to leave fossil fuels for any mechanical function. However, it is still a long way to go. Several governments have also stressed EVs or electric vehicles, but not many are on the streets today. If you do not give inputs to control the carbon pollution, things may get out of control.

Society can control the climate change catastrophe through initiatives still on paper. Recent trends show alarming figures from all quarters. So, it is high time the world fastens the seat belts to give it a rejig.
